The Canadian 5th Scale Nationals
The Canadian Nationals Winners

Canada’s biggest RC large scale competition, took place from Friday July 7th to Sunday July 9th this year at Walton Raceway in Ontario. The Cardinal Racing team driver Mark Sousa, raced the RR5 Factory Team in the Pro Buggy class and the W5 Max in the Pro Truck class. Another very good driver, Antoine Sansfacon, also raced an MCD RR5 and W5 Truck in the competition. We were very happy to have the first MCD W5 Max truck to race in Canada and two MCD first places at the podium! There were 149 entries this year at the Nationals, including pro drivers from the USA.
Mark Sousa’s RR5 did really well during practice, setting up the fastest lap times, to put him into the qualifying rounds on Saturday. Going into qualifying, his car was working awesome! Despite a little electrical issue, he was able to be a top qualifier and start on pole in the second round. In the final race he started out front and won the race to become a 2 time Buggy Champion!
In the Pro Truck class, Mark Sousa’s W5 Max was very fast and got top qualifier in most of the races. In the final race, the weather became windy and, because we had not drilled enough holes in the body, caused his truck to parachute and flip in the air. It landed with a hard crash and broke down. This stroke of bad luck caused him to get out of the race despite doing very well. Luckily, Antoine Sansfacon’s great mechanical skills and consistent driving put him in first place in the Amateur Truck class. He worked well with the weather conditions and managed to do an excellent job with his W5 truck to become the first driver winning with an MCD truck in North America.
Cardinal Racing and MCD would like to thank all the drivers for their hard work and effort.
